The Mindful Motherhood Training is an eight-week meditation and yoga-based program for pregnant women and new mothers. Drawing from other popular mindfulness-based trainings such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, it was developed at the Institute of Noetic Sciences and California Pacific Medical Center's Research Institute in San Francisco as a behavioral intervention to reduce stress, improve mood, and encourage healthy behaviors and self–care, and to enhance attachment/bonding between mothers and their infants, during pregnancy and postpartum.
Using three essential practices, mindfulness while sitting, mindfulness while moving, and mindfulness in everyday life, we focus on helping pregnant women and early mothers develop the capacity to be present in the moment, present in their bodies, and to remain in nurturing connection with their babies, even in distressing situations.
